From the start of premium fashion ranges, equestrian clothing has had a quite central position. That said most sportswear has had a very central role in fashion. For equestrian sports however, there is one thing they have others often don't - a sense of style and function from the start - making them desirable to many as brands. Hunter Boots Hunters began life in the 19th century in Scotland and have been as still are one of the central items to equestrian fashion's mainstream success and are often seen on Edinburgh deals. The once North British Rubber Company, began life as a tyre production company and this did not change until the introduction of the green Wellington boot in 1955. This boot is still sold in its original form and is the one used by the Royal Households. The boots main benefit is that it is extremely comfortable for a Wellington boot and so it became the choice for equestrian events and upmarket fashion. Hunters have become world famous and have had associations with everyone from Jimmy Choo, to numerous other fashion houses. The fact they are also very functional has seen them used among a variety of people for functional use too and as we all know on the music festival circuit. Barbour Barbour jackets are also a country orientated English brand with a traditional feel and have had significant mainstream success with their items. The company has had a range of very successful items, however, it's the quilted jacket that probably stands out foremost. This jacket is as familiar on the marshes across the UK as it is on the high street and has really made a significant transition. Barbour has managed to make this change over by associating itself with both the British tradition, but also with a younger and cooler image. This mix has seen it keep its practical values, yet means it is still seen as cool by the young crowd. For instance the jacket still has wider pockets than most jackets - used for game and hunting, but most on the high street use them for their larger phones. Barbour is one of the best known British brands and continues to rise from strength to strength. Polo Shirt The polo shirt also arose from equestrian events, as you may hyave guessed from its name. The polo came about when Rene Lacoste decided that he had enough of the heavy materials he had to compete in during tennis tournaments. Lacoste, who had been a championship tennis player, decided a white shirt with a short sleeve and flat edged collar was best for comfort and for playing in for practical reasons. He created what was known as the polo shirt, as similar shirts were used in polo matches. This was released in 1933 and used for both polo and tennis for decades. However, it was not until 1972 that Ralph Lauren decided to use it in his collection. Obviously from there onwards it became a staple for not just Lauren, but also for the world of clothing. Polo players still use the shirt and often team it up with Hunter boots when doing so - this creates a certain look both on and off the pitch and is mainstream to an extent. There is little doubt that equestrian clothing has made its way into the world of the normal person and has played a role that is equally as important as golf in this area. Keep a look out for Edinburgh, or Glasgow deals in this area and you too can look great for less, on horseback, or on the high street.
