The Different Types of Hand Tools commonly used by people

Home Improvement,Home Repair
Hand tools are essential to repair and mend various things at homes and offices. Having these tools handy will help fix the problems in their starting stages and prevent excessive expenditure.

Hand tools mostly include equipment that is used for manually fixing something or accomplishing a task without the help of machines. There is a wide variety of such tools each with its own set of advantages, although you must learn how to use them effectively and also care for them. They differ a lot in terms of the materials they are made of. Most of them are made of carbon or stainless steel, iron, brass or aluminum, although copper is also used in some cases. From the commonly used hammers and wrenches to pliers, screwdrivers, shears and chisels, there are plenty of tool categories and varieties used for different purposes, in different professions. You might also want to know about spanners, measuring tools, drillers, saws, garden tools and jacks.

When you consider the different uses of hand tools you will be surprised by the innumerable places in which these are found to be so useful. They can be used for measuring, masonry and construction, drywalling, cutting and carpentry, and gardening. There are tools for plumbing, painting, agriculture and surveying as well. You would also come across those models which are actually powered by electricity such as drills, jigsaw cutters and chainsaw. There are those operated through the use of a simple level and those which are operated by hand without being powered by any other external component. They can be designed based on the kind of functionality required and the ease of operation for achieving the task. This is why some are heavy duty, while some are disposable. Some operate with the help of a spring while some are operated with magnetic power.

Depending on the work you do, different types of hand tools can be used. They usually have a length of around 4 to 6 inches with a place to hold them and operate them and blades or heads which provide the actual functionality. You will come across aviation shears or nippers, pincers and bolt croppers, cutters and tweezers, pry bars and saws. While some tools are used to pull out components from a machine or open different parts, others are used to cut or hack through the body of a block of wood. Some of them are used for a wide variety of purposes and are hence used commonly by plumbers, mechanics and electricians.

From hacksaws to cut through metal to handsaws for cutting into wood, chisels to shape or carve wood or stone to levels to check the surface orientation, hand tools come handy in many different ways. There are cutters and hammers, clamps and pry bars. While some tools are needed to open out components like pry bars, there are those which are needed to beat the metal down, for example a hammer that drives a nail into wood. Pliers are used with wires while there are tap and die sets and rivets used in many other ways. It is also important to understand how to clean them out after the task to make sure they are not affected by corrosion.
