The raw food movement has taken hold with health-conscious people everywhere. Moving away from over-processed food and toward whole grains, fruit, vegetables, and nuts has given many people a new lease on life through improved health. Some think it's going too far to give pets a raw food diet, while other think that raw dog food is the most natural way to ensure a pet's health. Humans have always cooked at least some of their food, but wild animals don't cook the rabbits and squirrels they catch for supper. They know that they'll get the most nutrition from a fresh catch. Herd and pack animals learn from the older generations what to hunt and how to accomplish it. The will to survive transcends species. It's a healthy species that survives. It's not just meat that wild animals eat, however. Everyone's seen a dog eat grass to settle its stomach. Raw food for pets includes vegetables and even fruit in the mix, for complete nutrition in a dog's diet. Grains, in balance with other foods, round out a diet that rivals and even exceeds even the best hunter in the wild. Domesticated animals need to rely on their human owners to ensure their nutrition, because thousands of years away from living wild has dulled their instincts somewhat. If Rover was responsible for finding his own meals, he'd likely just head for the nearest garbage can and eat whatever he found. Our pets may do tricks and have uncanny intuition about us, they can't go to the store and shop for their own food. But even we as owners need to heed the advice of pet experts to be sure what we choose to feed them is the best for their long-term health. It's a cooperative effort that combines the modern scientific knowledge and an understanding of an animal's nature with the concern a pet owner has for the health and longevity of their best friend and companion. For many people, their relationship with their dog is the most fulfilling and satisfying one in their lives. As people start to understand the debilitating effects of processed food--which removes most of the nutrients from its raw components--on humans, they're also understanding that it's as important to maintain their pets' health as it is to maintain their own. The lives of their pets are in their hands, and a dog's well-being is its owner's responsibility. People who care about their bodies, spending hours at the gym, wouldn't think of poisoning themselves with all the things we've learned are so bad for our health: white flour, processed sugars, trans fats, and chemical additives. If their pet is like a member of their family, they'll make sure that Rover's diet is just as healthy as there is, and they'll provide the best thing possible: a raw dog food diet.
