IMMUNITEE aims to provide the third world with vaccinations against life-threatening illnesses. The idea was spawned when I received a regular email update from UNICEF which explained that 1,000 tetanus vaccines cost just ?40 to be bought, distributed and administered. I was shocked by the realisation of how cheap the vaccines are, that's less than 4p per child! I decided that asking for donations isn't very imaginative, so I decided to bring the two things I love the most together - Charity and T-shirts... and IMMUNITEE was born. All profits from the t-shirts and all donations will be used to buy the vaccines, which will save a significant amount of lives in the countries they reach (mainly Africa). Just one t-shirt purchase will vaccinate 125 children (yes, 125!). I chose UNICEF to handle the distribution and administering of the vaccines, as they are a respectable and large charity organisation. I have signed a contract with UNICEF, and so IMMUNITEE is dedicated to providing this charity service now. I chose to go with tetanus vaccines to start IMMUNITEE with as tetanus is a big issue in Africa, and the vaccines are cheap so it's incredibly easy to make an impact. In the future, I hope to expand this project to send vaccinations that will tackle all sorts of disease. Perhaps in a few years time we could be vaccinating children against malaria through the simple purchase of a t-shirt, exciting right?
