Many technologies were developed to augment the efficacy of healthcare services and practices. And one popular technology which was developed for use in healthcare institutions and for healthcare workers and professionals were EMR and pain management emr. So what have these technologies offered that improved medical practices? What are EMR and EHR? EMR, or electronic medical records, are computerized medical record created in an organization that delivers care, such as a hospital or physician's office. EHR, or Electronic Health Records, on the other hand, are evolving concept defined as a systematic collection of electronic health information about individual patients or populations. Although the terms EMR and EHR are often used interchangeably are often used interchangeably, there are several differences between these terms. The EMR can, for example, be defined as the patient record created in hospitals and ambulatory environments, and which can serve as a data source for the EHR. It is important to note that an EHR is generated and maintained within an institution, such as a hospital, integrated delivery network, clinic, or physician office, to give patients, physicians and other health care providers, employers, and payers or insurers access to a patient's medical records across facilities. Advantages of using EMR and EHR Systems According to experts, the main advantage of using EMR and EHR systems is that it allowed for easier and convenient storage, retrieval, and modification of medical records. However, there are other reasons why electronic medical records were developed and implemented. One of those is to improve medical efficacy by providing healthcare workers with easy and faster access to medical records. Easier Access to Medical Records Faster access to medical records is what made EMR/EHR systems an integral part of a growing healthcare institution. This allows healthcare workers, such as doctors, to diagnose an illness or condition by referencing older and other medical records faster compared to conventional means. This also allows for faster sharing of medical records which allows other healthcare institutions to use medical records of other institutions. But other than just for that, its mobility also made it easier for healthcare institutions to pass patient information or medical record from one institution to the other in cases where a former patient was admitted to a different hospital. Eliminating Medical Errors Another major advantage of using EMR/EHR systems is because of its effort to eliminate medical errors commonly associated with the use of paper-based medical records. Handwritten paper medical records can be associated with poor legibility, which can contribute to medical errors. Electronic records help with the standardization of forms, terminology and abbreviations, and data input. Digitization of forms facilitates the collection of data for epidemiology and clinical studies.
