Quick Breaks in the Edinburgh

Business

It's amazing how many people decide on going further afield than they have to for their breaks away, however a trip to Edinburgh can be just as much of a break away as to any other continental European city.

Getting there

Fortunately for those in the UK, Scotland's capital is not very far away and can be reached in a few hours by train from the furthest reaches of the British Isles, or by air in under an hour - making it a very reasonable prospect to travel to.

Edinburgh airport is also within close proximity of the city and is a short and also low cost bus ride right to the centre. This of course is something that many who are used to flying to the European cities will appreciate as it is both near and low cost - something not always the case.

Where to Stay

Edinburgh deals offers an array of beautiful and new hotels. From the modern to the 17th century. The city's history is evident everywhere and there is no shortage of great places to stay.

Of course if you want the quintessential Edinburgh experience the classic hotel is perfect and offers you the opportunity to wine and dine in very British luxury. As Edinburgh is the most British of all the Scottish cities it manages to show its credentials.

Fortunately for those who can't afford, or simply don't want the trappings of high end luxury there are a number of great hostels and B&Bs on offer. Whether you choose either , both have some sort of nice individuality about it and manages to really give you an insight into the ways of Edinburgh.

What to Do

There is more to do in Edinburgh than you can shake a stick at. This means that in most cases people find themselves coming back quite regularly to the city. The daily deals available to the city make it a great prospect.

The castle is an obvious choice and the home of the Scottish Crown Jewels as well as a number of other wonderful pieces. One of the best ways to see the city however is through a walking tour, which offers you a long insight into Scotland's history and also the city's times of trial and victory. Most of these start at the Royal Mile in the centre of the old part of the city.

Edinburgh also has a long history of writers, including John Louis Stevenson and of course the most Scottish of all, Robert Burns - this makes the writers museum a good place to visit for those of such a persuasion.

Whisky tasting is also something the city is renowned for and you have to try at least one of the Scotches on offer. Of course there are other drinks, Irn Bru being a notable one and a soft drink that outsells both Coca Cola and Pepsi put together in the country. Try some battered Mars Bar if you have the heart for it also, Glasgow deals with this culinary delight by adding some Tennants to it.

Going Out

The city is also a great place to go out and enjoy a good night out. The whole of this metropolis is lined with bars and clubs. For a busier night out try Grassmere in the centre of the old city. Of course, there are also a wide choice of more relaxed pubs to start with, that allow you to get an experience of Scotland and its people.

As Edinburgh is not a large city it is often quite easy to travel around it. Buses run late into the night and there's also a tram system. Trains are also well catered for and the city has a number of stations which serve other parts of the UK and also Scottish cities quite well.

As a city to visit, Edinburgh makes a great visit, whether during the busy festival period, or during the quieter parts of the year.
