Search Engine Optimization or simply known as SEO is the term used to describe the marketing method of enhancing websites ranking in search engines result pages. These factors vary depending on search engines used. Most SEO specialists base their analyses, tactics and strategies to Google. This is due to surveys which states that Google is the dominant search engine used by most web users especially in the United States. Google like any other search engines doesn’t disclose their search algorithms. However, through Web Master Tools and other forum sites pointers are given and spread out.

Some of the general factors that is said to determine search rankings in Google includes on page and off page optimization, keywords usage, and internal and external links.

In keywords usage, placing of website’s common keywords must be positioned in the URL, page titles, header and Meta tags, web content, alt tags and anchor text in internal links.

SEO starts from your website itself, may it be through your web design or content. Page size must not exceed 100K excluding images. Contents of your website must be updated regularly because fresh content from established or old sites rank better in search results and higher ratio of new pages to old in old sites get better recognition. From these details it is already implied that older domains have more authority in Google search engine than newer ones. Faster loading of websites is also one of the key factors since Google takes into consideration better experience for searchers.

In internal links, you must ensure that your web pages structure or tree-like structure doesn’t go on deeper or is within too many pages. Two clicks are more than enough. Make sure that all you internal links are not broken through validation tools.

On the other hand, outbound links deals with your website’s links to other site or called as the outgoing links. Every web owner must know that their website must not have any connection to untrustworthy sites or those marked as spammed. Anchortext of outbound links must also be topically related to website’s niche.

Off-Page Optimization is all about link building. In this factor Goole wants natural looking links pointing to your website. Backlinks must be relevant to your site and the anchor text used is your keyword to increase search ranking. Having backlinks from social networking and bookmarking sites is also highly regarded by Google’s search engine since these websites are frequently updated and visited by web users.

Every SEO must keep in mind that all of these factors are just few of maybe hundreds of factors in Google’s algorithm in their search results. This may be helpful but keep in mind that relevancy and good content is still the key in search rankings.
