Bipolar and Bipolar 2 can be very much alike because they are considered mental disorders, and that they both cause moods to rotate. However, there are a lot of things that are different between these conditions, and the treatment of each is different as well. Understanding bipolar treatments and symptoms is vital to overcoming both of these conditions. For some, Bipolar 2 does not effect a thorough interruption in their being, as the elevated condition, or hypomanic episode, is not as extreme as in those with basic Bipolar disorder. Episodes of depression are also affiliated with this condition, although they may be cursory. Both types of Bipolar disorder need treatment, as symptoms can get worse over time. Left untreated, dangersome behaviors and hospitalizations are a real likelihood. It is estimated that six million people in the USA alone suffer from a type of Bipolar disorder. Research indicates that the initial signs begin to show themselves at some point between the teen years, up until the beginning of the 20's. This does not apply to every case, as few people above the age of fifty develop a bipolar disorder. No individual is exempt to developing this disease, and no one is quite certain what causes it. There has, nonetheless, been evidence that show that these conditions might be genetic. Meaning, individuals with family members that suffer from either Bipolar or Bipolar 2 possess a greater likelihood of living with these disorders. Hypomanic episodes somewhat appear like the symptoms of ADHD, with fast speech, noisy speech, high energy and a deficiency of concentration being noticeable. Other symptoms consist of being over-confident, overly optimistic, and quite risky in behavior. Seeing that these episodes can go on for months, it might be hard to understand if this is simply a person's personality, or some type of disorder. As an episode of hypomania ends, depression commonly follows it. Though it might not be instantly, this is the normal cycle of symptoms associated with Bipolar 2. Both symptoms need some form of treatment to prevent them from becoming too severe. Left untreated, this illness can become true mania. Because of this, medication is oftentimes required. For hypomania, mood stabilizers, such as lithium, Depakote, or Lamictal are generally prescribed. Anti-psychotics are another option, with Risperdal and Abilify being some of the more prevalent. Furthermore, tranquilizers like Xanax and Valium are regularly prescribed. Anti-depressants may also be required in order to fight bouts of depression. Paxil, Zoloft, and Prozac are among the top medications for treating not only Bipolar associated depression, but other types of depression as well. After experiencing weeks of hypomania, sufferers can fall into deep depression. Bipolar 2 depression is not difficult to catch if you have been near a person that has been enduring hypomanic episode for months. Considering not much is understood about the causes of Bipolar 2 and there is no known way to prevent it. It can, however, be controlled successfully through a combination of medication and therapy. Many that use the combination of both of these treatments find that their symptoms diminish over time.
