Corporate social responsibility is big business nowadays. Alpargates are worn by farmers in Argentina because they are lightweight, durable and comfortable. Their rubber soles, as opposed to the cord sole, enables people to walk on a much more varied terrain than they are able to in a cord shoes – mountains, flats, beaches, muds, etc. none prove much of an issue. The reason that Toms have focused on this Argentinian shoe, is that they originally offered their free shoes to children in Argentina; today, though, their charity extends way beyond the scopes of South America. Toms are one of the most popular brands of casual, fashionable, footwear on the market at present.
