Hair transplants have made it easy to regain lost hair. In yesteryear, the toupees to cover bald areas were unnatural and looked bad. The previous transplant techniques also looked artificial and unsightly. The latest techniques are highly effective and look very natural. The procedure generally takes one long session to get the job done. Prior to getting hair transplant surgery, there are certain things that you should know. Let’s take a look at them. What causes hair loss Hair loss is mostly caused by a genetic condition known as androgenic alopecia. The presence of Dihydro testosterone (DHT), a male hormone both in males and females, destroys the follicular health and hair loss takes place. Transplanted hair do not fall again The transplanted hair are extracted from the back and the sides of the scalps where the hair are naturally able to resist the ill effects of DHT. These hair are able to maintain their resistance to DHT at the new site as well and therefor do not undergo any further loss. Other hair can undergo natural loss The normal hair that have not undergone loss can go undergo loss in future. You can either get another transplant for such areas of the scalp in future or you can use Minoxidil or Finasteride to ensure that you do not undergo further hair loss. It is a good idea to discuss this with your hair transplant surgeon before undergoing the transplant. You will have shedding after the transplant The transplanted hair after the procedure will fall after a few weeks. This is known as shedding and is perfectly normal. These hair make way for the new that grow out. These hair are permanent and do not fall in future. You must follow doctor’s instructions There are certain instructions that the doctor will give you before the treatment as well as after it. Ensure that you follow them to the letter since they are critical for the success of the hair transplant surgery. Not doing so can jeopardize the eventual outcome of the whole exercise. Hair will not grow out instantly The hair take time to grow and will not be coming out a week after the transplant. They should come to surface in three months’ time and grow to normal length in about one year. This can off course vary in individuals and the time needed can both go up or down. Keep expectation real Hair transplant offers a scalp that has a good coverage of hair. The overall results however, depend on the total number of grafts and the condition of the hair. The scalp can look reasonably covered but you should not expect your hair to go back to the way they were during the teenage years.
