It seems to be more of a Party over at Party these days. With FullTiltPoker out of the equation, and no U.S. play on Stars, Party have come back in to the fore of online poker and I’m sure they’ll feel it’s their rightful place. Although they’re still way behind Stars in terms of traffic, they’re now one of the big 3 sites, coming in just behind iPoker in terms of traffic according to pokerscout. That’s a pretty good standing, and you’ve got to give credit to Party for their heavy online marketing campaigns and genuine attempts to attract recreational players to the site so that the sharks can feast on all the fishes. They’ve also always held firm when it comes to PartyPoker Rakeback. It’s a fun site and an awesome brand which pre-UIGEA ran as the king of online poker, and their recent merge with BWIN and scheduled online traffic merge with BWIN is surely going to really change up the game and with their combined power I’d love to see them compete with Stars for that top spot again. I’d really like to see a few more well known and successful online pros on the professional roster at Party because they’re definitely lacking right now and although they’re trying to appeal to the mainstream player who wants to have some fun, they need to also established themselves as a premier site where the dream can come true as well. It’s long been an honour to make the Stars Team Online and there’s genuinely a ton of players out there who work so hard and log so many hands on Stars in an attempt to become recognised and ultimately become a recognised professional and member of the online roster there. If Party could get a few of the popular young and outstanding players out there on the team, I believe it’d go a long way to improving their standing in the serious community. I guess the lack of PartyPoker Rakeback for the guys right at the top tier puts some players off, such as the SuperNova Elite guys on Stars, perhaps their reward system is something they should consider adjusting carefully so as to attract the big guns whilst maintaining the number of fish. Saying all of that, the enigmatic Tony G definitely appeals to the mainstream crowd and does wonders for the Party brand with his television appearances which are often full of controversy as well as fun. He’s brought a lot of character to the brand and although disliked for many due to his apparent arrogance, I’ve got to give him credit for what he’s done for the site. 2012 could really be a turning point for Party Poker as their traffic is set to Merge with BWIN and with all the uncertainties around widespread legislation anything could happen this year.
