There are a lot of commercial processes that go into manufacturing which the average person is unaware of. A majority of the industrial processes are repetitive procedures that require precision work for a product to be useful. One of those processes is something known as deburring, and the machine used to do this process is known as a deburring machine. If you have ever put anything into mold, you may have noticed that a small outline of material usually remains where the two mold halves meet. In metal fabrication, this is called burr and it needs to be removed for several reasons. The most important reason that burr needs to be removed is because it can be sharp and cause injuries. Another reason is that burr is excess material and can make precision parts useless. But how does a deburring machine work? There are several methods that companies use to deburr metal parts. For example, deburring the inside of a hole like the one that can be left behind when making cylinder is often done with a wire brush machine. If the part is small enough, then the wire brush would also be used on the outside of the piece. But when it comes to finding economical ways to deburr items that can also save time, there are a few methods being used. For small parts, company may use magnetic deburring. This is a machine that allows a deburring solution to remove the burr and then magnets move in a get the excess materials off of the piece. It can also be done by shaking the pieces as well. Another type of deburring machine is something that uses a process called Harperizing. There are small cylinders inside of a drum that work in conjunction with brushes or other processes to remove the burrs. The cylinders move one way and the drum moves in the other direction, both at very high speeds. The force of the opposing movements makes removing the burr easier for the brush or whatever device is being used to remove the burr. This is another process that is used for smaller parts but not necessarily delicate parts. One of the more popular deburring machine types is a centrifugal disc finisher. This machine has a small chamber with a rotating disc at the bottom. The metal piece and deburring solution are put in the chamber and it is spun at very high speeds. As the piece and the solution are pushed up against the wall of the cylinder, the disc moves up and down the cylinder to remove the burr.
