As the new year approaches, motorbike fans will undoubtedly be itching to discover 2012's releases - and there will be a sizable mix. A host of big names are launching everything from revamped classics to powerful new creations - read on for a preview of what's coming up. The start of a new year typically heralds the release of exciting new motorcycles, and 2012 is no exception. Enthusiasts can expect to see fresh offerings from the likes of KTM, Honda, Harley Davidson and Triumph Motorcycles, among a number of other top manufacturers. So, no matter what kind of rider you are, you should be able to find something to spark your interest in next year's array of new machines. Among the new releases bound to cause a stir is Harley Davidson's Night Rod Special. Of course, this manufacturer is particularly iconic and there are countless die-hard fans who prize their ride above anything else - and the Night Rod Special looks set to impress them on every level. Virtually all the components of this powerful-looking bike are blacked out, sporting a matte finish that instantly points to its superior power. Its 1250cc engine produces a whopping 125 horsepower - and it is in fact the highest horsepower engine from Harley Davidson to date. Its Brembo dual-disk brakes offer strong, reliable stopping capabilities, while the Night Rod Special also boasts superior handling and comfort - without compromising its edgy appearance. Also putting out new models in 2012 is Honda. Among its releases will be a 20th anniversary edition of the iconic Fireblade - a hugely popular design in the supersport class. This updated version will build on the original Fireblade's success, incorporating its well regarded qualities alongside a host of great additions. Many of the bike's improvements are focused on the chassis - and the manufacturer claims its efforts have paid off in increased riding enjoyment. Smoother power delivery can be felt thanks to a revised fuel injection, while a new rear shock ushers in improvements to traction and damping. Plus, some of the latest technologies have been added, including a full LCD display. Following a year of strong motorbike sales, Triumph is also set to make waves in the market in 2012. Releasing three new models, the manufacturer will launch its limited edition Steve McQueen bike among them. Planning to put just 1,100 of these out for sale worldwide, Triumph has dedicated this ride to the late actor McQueen, basing the bike on the Bonneville T100, while also taking inspiration from the motorcycle the man himself rode in The Great Escape, the Triumph Trophy TR6. One of the most striking things about this model is its blacked out features, which imbue it with an irresistible style. The British brand will also be launching the Tiger Explorer, as part of its adventure range. Its all-new engine boasts three cylinders in excess of 1200cc alongside an impressive selection of features. Among them is switchable ABS, plus traction and cruise control. Its final scheduled 2012 release is the Speed Triple R - a revamp of the existing Speed Triple. With enhanced brake performance - improved by five per cent compared to the previous model - and lightweight wheels, this model provides exceptional handling and control.
