What Are The Most Common Hepatitis C Symptoms

Health
The outward exhibition of Hepatitis C symptoms would depend on how severe the infection has become due to the Hepatitis C virus (HCV). Once signs and symptoms manifest, they are defined as either mild or severe. The mildest symptoms are hardly recognizable in a way that 80% of people suffering from Hepatitis C are unaware of it. Severe hepatitis C symptoms, on the other hand result in other health problems that could be debilitating.

Hepatitis is a medical problem characterized by the inflammation of the liver which is due to a number of factors which include: alcohol abuse, specific drugs, poisonous chemicals, and contaminants, or by other sorts of contagious conditions. The most common reason for Hepatitis is due to the Hepatitis C virus, one of the many viruses that cause liver inflammation.

The swelling of the liver as a result of an infection of HCV is known as Hepatitis C. Without having immediate treatment, the HCV infection can result in long term results that could potentially cause serious liver disease. If Hepatitis C symptoms are taken for granted, liver disease can progress to eventual liver failure.

This condition is life threatening and the only treatment for this is a liver transplant. This life-threatening disease has 75% to 85% of individuals with HCV developing chronic Hepatitis C.

The U.S and other nations throughout the world are worried with regards to the growing cases of Hepatitis C in their countries. For United States alone, there are 17,000 new (acute) cases of HCV infections annually, while HCV is killing 8,000 to 10,000 individuals overall annually. The growing mortality rates in the United States are attributable to end-stage liver disease, cirrhosis and liver cancer caused by HCV

Hepatitis C symptoms can show in about 1 out of 5 individuals, who have contracted HCV. These symptoms show up with varying severity. It also is categorized into two types of HCV infections, either acute or chronic infection.

Acute Infection: There aren't any Hepatitis C symptoms recognized prior to the first infection with HCV. As a matter of fact, 80% of the recently infected patients show no symptoms or asymptomatic. The remaining 20% of the newly infected patients’ present symptoms such as jaundice, nausea, tiredness, abdominal discomfort and loss of appetite. The yellow discoloration of the skin happens when there is an increased bilirubin levels in the body and leads to the tinting of the skin and the white of the eyes. At the same time, urine and stools unusually become darker in color. The incubation period for Acute Hepatitis C ranges from 4 to 12 weeks after exposure to HCV.

Chronic Infections: For people with newly acquired HCV, 75% to 85% of the total number of cases is chronically infected. People who acquired chronic hepatitis C symptoms present strange symptoms such as fatigue and in some cases there won't be any overt or obvious signs and symptoms. Even so asymptomatic sufferers are more vulnerable to have progressive liver damage. Roughly 15% to 30% of chronic Hepatitis C patients have acquired scarring of the liver or cirrhosis after some time. Liver cirrhosis is a medical condition that is also related to addiction to alcohol, happens when healthy tissue of the liver is replaced with fibrous tissue, after which, this fibrous tissue hardens in the liver. This condition leads to the progressive failure of the liver until eventually it loses its ability to perform its normal functions. Manifestations of liver cirrhosis seem 20-30 years after infection. Some of these symptoms are listed below:

• Fluid retention that leads to swelling of legs (edema), belly (ascites), or the whole body (anasarca)
• Disturbances in sleeping
• Fatigue
• Itchy skin
• Long-term jaundice
• Weight loss and loss of appetite
• Blood in vomit
• Mental disturbances, ex. hallucinations (hepatic encephalopathy), or extreme drowsiness

Upon going through any of the manifestations, immediately see a medical doctor. Even better, have a frequent check-up to avoid being infected with contagious illnesses including Hepatitis C. Whether the HCV infection is acute or chronic, Hepatitis C symptoms must be known in order to avoid further complications and health conditions.
