Asbestos Cancer Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that affects the lining of many body organs; known as mesothelioma it is a lethal form of the disease – cancer. This layer or membrane is called the mesothelium and is the reason why the cancer is called mesothelioma cancer. Normally the cells of the mesothelium would grow and die but mesothelioma occurs the cells do not die but keep growing and multiplying and the body’s own cell growth control mechanism doesn’t work. As cancerous conditions rate, this one is very serious and painful for the victim but even so there is hope that all the research will provide a cure. Every year, doctors and scientists researching the disease worldwide are developing new treatments and making new discoveries that help to improve the chance of survival and the patient’s quality of life. It is hoped that the number of reported cases of mesothelioma in Western Europe will peak fairly soon, possibly as early as 2010 but no later than 2020.
