EMR or Electronic Medical Record is a technology mostly found and used in different medical institutions, particularly in hospitals. The technology is used to facilitate the storage, retrieval, and modification of medical records, which is unlike the use of traditional paper-based medical records. Advantages of using EMR Systems According to experts, the use of EMR systems, such as psychiatry emr, is that it made it far easier and more convenient for healthcare experts to store medical records as well as retrieve it from storage and modify it. But other than just its use for storing medical records, EMR systems are also known for its advantage which allowed different healthcare institutions to save more than using different storage facilities to store all their medical records. According to medical experts, it is a standard in the US that medical records must be stored for 7 years before it can be disposed. Because of this, larger healthcare institutions, particularly hospitals, may have to rent a storage space outside their premises to accommodate all their medical records. EMR systems, on the other hand, produces only digital records which can be easily stored within a digital storage space, which in turn can be stored easily within the institution’s premises. Medical Efficacy According to experts, the use of Electronic Medical Records or EMR Systems can help reduce medical errors by providing healthcare workers with decision support. Fast access to medical literature and current best practices in medicine are hypothesised to enable proliferation of ongoing improvements in healthcare efficacy. In addition to that, the use of EMR systems, such as pediatric emr, had also decreased the incidence of medical errors normally associated with the use of paper-based medical records. Handwritten paper medical records can be associated with poor legibility, which can contribute to medical errors. Electronic records help with the standardization of forms, terminology and abbreviations, and data input. Digitization of forms facilitates the collection of data for epidemiology and clinical studies. Mobility Another important aspect of using an EMR system is with its mobility in which medical records can be easily transferred from one healthcare institution to the other, which normally involves hiring a courier service to transport a paper-based medical record. The advantage of this is that it allows timely transfer of medical records for emergency cases, such as a patient admitted into a different hospital which lacks the medical record they needed.
