“I became a general contractor in my early 20s. I have been in the business for over 35 years – Gary Miller” Freelancing is a field that many people want to enter but remain scared of the possibility that they might not get contracts if the economy goes down which keeps them hooked to the positions they hold in an organization. There are many aspects of life that keeps changing and many people are not able to keep up or stay within the same loop of a schedule that a regular day job has to offer them. It is an inevitable issue with almost all people that they eventually dread the system, which keeps them tied down to a desk for most of their lives and reaching the moments where they end up staring into the empty space of possibilities that they wanted to switch over for attaining fresh energy. There are still many who would still prefer sticking to the benefits they get from their jobs and a steady pay checks, however they loose the freedom to choose in the process which freelancers desire the most. There are many IT contractors who prefer to deliver the precision skills online which cuts down their traveling time, expenses and maintenance of a car when they simply have to work from in front of the home personal computer. The biggest perk is to work at any time of the day to pay off the accumulating bills which keep their engine of life running. IT contractors tend to opt for this solution to keep away from the office politics and have felt a great difference in the kind of money they can make as freelancers which some times become three or even four times the amount they used to make on their day job. There are times when people end up facing bad norms created by the management which treats the employees like cattle rather than human beings because of some pending project which has not been completed due to various reasons like being understaffed. People end up loosing there weekends, holidays and some times even do over time to get the job done to meet the deadlines. Many companies do not pay over time put into the process which makes the whole issue much more frustrating. There are times when fortune 500 companies pit their employees against each other to perform the best to attain the raise that has been dangled in front of them. However, only a chosen few get the raise which leaves many unsatisfied even after the amount of hard work they put into the system. Hence, many tend to opt out from working on a day job, even giving up the fame that comes along with working with a prestigious organization for their own personal sanity.
