It is likely that any ordinary activity you may think of has a device that you can use to carry out such activity faster. If you were to buy gadgets for each of your daily uses, you would have so many devices that you would have no space to keep them. It is cumbersome when you have to carry around several handheld devices to help in your activities. The answer to all this is the Smartphone, which allows you to tackle your entire computer based and information exchange needs. Smartphones are cellular phones that incorporate features that allow you to do things you previously could only do using a computer or a PDA. A Smartphone allows the configuration of desired applications in the phone. You can change it to your way of doing things, unlike many cellular phones that limit you to using them in the way they are configured. For example, the Smartphone allows changing the calendar in your phone if you do not like it. A Smartphone can be seen as a PDA with additional features of a phone; or a phone with the added features of a PDA. Some of the things that a Smartphone can do include: - Making and receiving calls just like an ordinary cell phone – some are WiFi enabled - Personal Information Management (PIM). You can organize your daily activities using a Smartphone - Can interact with desktops and laptops - Send and receive e-mails - Instant messaging - Word processing programs - Video games - With some standard formats you are able to play video and audio files - Inventions in the future have the promise of being more exciting. For example, the Nokia 6131, which is still in the stages of development, will operate as a cordless credit card. It utilizes a two-way communication system in transferring payment details to pads in specific retail outlets. With these future gadgets it will be only a matter of time before what we consider as a Smartphone is rendered ordinary. If you have a keen interest in Smartphones, keep a close watch on the market. There will definitely be newer and better innovations as the various companies in the market try to outdo each other for market share. If the Nokia 6131 is anything to go by, you can expect that there will be even more activities in the future that will be done using smart phones.
