If you want to find God in the nature then the South Indian temples are the best options for you. Engraved with the undefined natural beauty the region offers you a chance to purify your heart and soul with a number of holy South India Temples. Many of these temples are known for their ancient heritage value. All these temples are known for their different styles of architecture.

Most popularly known as the architectural masterpiece in the temples of South India you may find the glimpse of Dravidian, Pallavas, Cholas, Naik, Hoysala, Vijayanagara styles of architectures. Many of these temples have been declared as 'World Heritage Site' by UNESCO.

Famous Temples of South India: Some of the most important temples of South India are listed below:

Guruvayoor Temple: Located 29 km North-West of Thrissur this temple is one of the most important pilgrimages of Kerala state. Dedicated to Hindu Lord Krishna this temple is situated in the town of Guruvayoor. Lord Krishna in Guruvayoor is popularly know as 'Sri Guruvayoorappan'. The most interesting fact about this temple is that strict dress code is made for the devotees, who wish to enter the temple. Men are to wear Mundu while women are to wear Saaree or traditional Kerala dresses.

Mahabalipuram Temple: One of the most visited South India temples Mahabalipuram (aka Mamallapuram) is located in Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu state. The temples of Mahabalipuram are classified as UNESCO World Heritage Center. These historic monuments were built between 7th to 9th centuries during the reign of Pallava Kings. The temples are the best example of wonderful Dravidian architecture. The cave temples, monolithic rathas, or chariots ans sculpted bas reliefs are the prime attractions of Mahablipuram temple.

Somnathpur Temple: Somnathpur Temple is located in Somnathpur near the city of Mysore in the South Indian state of Karnataka. Also known as Keshava temple it is believed to be built around 1268 AD by Somnatha. The temple is the most complete as well as the best preserved monument of Hoysala architecture. The temple is known for its excellent carvings and sculptural work.

Kanchipuram Temple: Kanchipuram, also called Kanchi is renowned as 'the city of 1000temples'. This temple town is located in Kanchipuram district of Tamilnadu state. Here you may find several important temples of South India dedicated to Hindu Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva. Varadharaja Perumal temple, Kailashanthar temple, Kamakshi Amman temple and Ekambaranatha temple are the famous temples in Kanchipuram.

Tirupati Tirumala Balaji Temple: Tirupati Tirumala Balaji Temple is one of the most visited South India temples, known for its magical divine aura. It is located in the hill town of Trirumala near Tirupati in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh state. The temple is also the second richest pilgrimage center after Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple (Trivandrum, Kerala). Everyday 50,000 to 100,000 pilgrims visit this temple.
