Dhanteras fallson Monday, KartikKishnaPaksha, 24th October 2011 this year. Dhanteras iscelebrated with full faith and enthusiasm on Trayodashi of Kartik Krishna Paksha. DevDhanvantri, Goddess Lakshmi, God Kuber and Yam Devare worshipped and offer Deep Dan on this day. Worshipping Yam Dev on this day stops any untimely death. A diya is lit on the entrance door facing the south direction for the whole night. Few coins and koudi are put in this lamp. IMPORTANCE OF DHANTERAS It is very auspicious to bring new gifts, silver, coins, utensil and jewellery on Dhanteras. Seven cereals include wheat, Urad, Moong, gram,barely and Masoor are worshipped on this day. He is a dear friend of lord Shiva. DHANTERAS STORY Once upon a time, a king got a child after many years. An astrologer declared that the boy will die after 4 days of his marriage. King gotdisheartened on hearing this. To save his son from any such incident, king decided to send his child to a place where no girl could reach him. A princess happened to pass from that path. Prince and princess saw each other and involved. They decided to get married. According to the predictions exactly after four days Yamdoot came to take the life of the prince. Princess started mourning. Yamdoot requested Yamraj to tell a way to save the life of prince. Yamraj felt pity on her and said,if she worships him on the Trayodashi night of Kartik Krishna Paksha with lamps facing the south direction then she can save his prince’s life. Since that day, lamps are lighted outside the house in south direction on Dhanteras. REMEDIES TO MAKE HAPPY LIFE ON DHANTERAS Applying some remedies on Dhanteras we can fulfilour wishes without any investment of time and money. Following remedies are very easy, miraculous and effective without harming anything. Insert the silver into a banana stem, and pour water daily into the root of banana till Diwali. On the night of Diwali, take out the silver from the stem, make a ring of this silver by the help of a jeweller and wash it with the raw milk and Ganga jal, keep it in a home shrine. Worship the ring with Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha with full of devotion.After worshipping the ring with incense sticks and deeps wear it at the same time. "Lakshmi-Puja" is performed in the evenings when small clay Diyas are lighted to ward off the obscurities of evil spirits. Bhajans or devotional songs are sung in praise of Goddess Laxmi and "Naivedya" of traditional sweets are offered to the Goddess Lakshami.
