Jersey: Perfect for fishing

Travel & Tourism
If you're a fan of fishing and would like to engage in the pursuit on your next holiday, why not consider visiting the Channel island of Jersey?

Thanks to the area's diverse landscape, great climate and huge tidal range, Jersey is home to a variety of marine life and you will be able to catch a vast number of different fish.

There are many different companies on the island that you can charter a boat from so you can head out on to the open water for some fishing.

What better way to start a holiday off than by casting your line out in the sea, catching a sea bass or two and then taking it back to your self-catering accommodation to barbecue for dinner?

If you've never been to Jersey before but want to make sure you take in some great fishing before you leave, chartering a boat with an expert fisherman is a good idea, as you will then be taken along to all the best places to go, which you could well miss otherwise.

For those more experienced and willing to go it alone, conducting research into Jersey's fishing hotspots is a must.

A good place to go is Gorey Harbour, which is one of the most beautiful parts of the British Isles in which to cast off a line or two.

You will often find local anglers along the outer wall of the harbour, with the majority of the fishing done here taking place at night or in the first light of the day. The back of the Mont Orgueil castle is also an ideal spot for catching bass.

If you head to St Catherine's breakwater, you are likely to catch a few fish. This is one of the most famous shore marks in Jersey and perfect if you want to land some mackerel - although you'll need to travel to the very end of the breakwater - and bass, which can be caught at the beginning of the mark. Head here for some night fishing as well.

Naturally, there are other things to get up to in Jersey other than fishing. The island's beaches are ideal for a spot of relaxation, particularly if you are in the region during the summer time.

Head to the north-east part of the island to spend some time on Achirondel, a great place to go for swimming and evening picnics.

You might also want to head to Beauport on the south coast of Jersey, which is a good choice for anyone keen to soak up a few rays. You will have to go down a steep path to get to the beach, however.

If you want to combine both fishing and a great day out on the beach, you should consider heading to Bonne Nuit on the north side of Jersey.

This small fishing harbour is a good place to go for picnics and sunbathing, although it is not the best beach in Jersey for swimming.

With so much in the way of Jersey activities to fit into your itinerary, you might find it difficult to do everything you want in a single trip.

However, you will find that the fishing in Jersey is second to none - so this may well mean it is worth returning to the island again in the future just to try your luck at landing some fish here a second time.

Fishing is just one of the Jersey activities you can engage in - visit Jersey.com to find out more about these and other attractions, such as the wide variety of beaches in Jersey.
