October 18, 2011, the combined forces of Abu Sayyaf and Moro-Islamic Liberation Front had met the Army’s 4th Special Forces Battalion in which 19 were killed. One of those was Second Lieutenant Jose Delfin Khe, who was about to marry his girlfriend after his training. Conflict between the Government and MILF It has long been known that the Philippine government had been in conflict with the MILF. And although peace-talks had been taken between the government and the MILF, conflicts among the Armed Force of the Philippines and the MILF, which had now been reported to have worked with the Abu Sayyaf, still rages on. One of the most recent conflicts was against the Army’s 4th Special Forces Battalion last Tuesday. Battle in Basilan According to the MILF, it was the AFP that started this conflict. The MILF in a statement said that the area in Al-Barka town where about 40 Special Forces of the Philippine Army had a 10-hour gunbattle with Moro rebels is well within the MILF area. According to the Current Events in Philippines resulted in 19 deaths among the AFP, and 6 from the MILF. According to the MILF, they have received an A-1 intelligence from their agent within the AFP that the army will be attacking the MILF early that morning. This intelligence allowed them to prepare, in which resulted in the AFP retreating. However, there were not without casualties. Second Lieutenant Jose Delfin Khe was one of the 19 who fell in the battlefield. According to his aunt, Kleng Estenor, Khe would have become a good senator someday had he not met his untimely death. Honoring the Fallen Heroes On Friday afternoon, 15 of the 19 slain soldiers were given simple arrival honors at the Villamor Air Base. According, Philippines Current Events, the officials of the Philippine Air Force had given full military honors among their fallen comrades at the Fort Bonifacio. There was also a soldier who had been honored for his heroism and bravery for giving cover for his retreating comrades. Tales of his heroism will always be remembered, according to his wife who wept after hearing his husband’s honorable actions in the field of battle.
