Okay, I know they're cute, you know they're cute! And every time the kids see them, you know they know that they're cute. Why? Because out of the back seat of your car you hear it ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, your children have seen a ground squirrel. Yes, they are adorable, they have those cute little bushy tails. However, what you know that you're kids don't know, is they keep eating up all of your garden vegetables, that were planned to be food for you and or family AND to be sold at the farmers market. At some point it is either going to be about you, and having money for food, or the squirrel. One of you has got to go, and it's not going to be you. So, it's time to find a way to annihilate the varmint. There are many ways that you could take care of your the rodents. Depending on what the size of property and what you're planning on doing, will impact which method works best for you. Here are some of the more common options for getting rid of them. Walling off. Simple and easy, put a fence up around your garden and literally wall them off! But if they're burrowing, that wont solve the problem. You can get natural gels or creams and rub them on your garden. This is time consuming and you have to consider, would you really want to eat it after you know you've put cream on it? You can get repellents . They can be toxic, so if you have children, make sure they are no where near the repellents. It's important to know that with repellents, they often contain things like, chili peppers, white pepper, cayenne pepper and black pepper, so make sure you keep them far away from your children if they like pepper. Believe it or not, you can actually buy "urine" from those predators that like to eat squirrels for lunch and place that around your farming area. Although smelling urine from a fox, isn't really a nice thing to think about, or smell for that matter. Then there's the extreme way. You could build on the property and take care of the problem that way (it's technically called deep tillage). But, then you wont have your farm any more and the problem of eating AND making money will still be around. Then there is the messiest of all ways, just flat out shoot them. Now I suppose if you had nothing else to do, and felt nothing towards the rodents, this way would be fine. However, there's another way that uses carbon monoxide, that will take care of the problem quick and easy. It's called Pressurized Exhaust Rodent Controller (P.E.R.C for short). It's simple, easy and inexpensive. You place a rod(s) down into the hole where the critters been, turn on the pump and it's all over. We humans can't live with high levels of carbon monoxide and neither can they. Here are a few more reasons, why P.E.R.C. is so effective: You don't have to dig out the gopher mounds, you simply put the probe(s) (multiple ones if you chose) in them. No permits are required. Your crops wont be damaged. Perhaps the nicest advantage to using P.E.R.C. is that you aren't limited to which rodent you are killing because it will take care of gophers, moles, prairie dogs, ground squirrels, voles and other rodents as well AND most importantly, you don't have to worry about the kids or Fido BECAUSE they aren't going to go underground into those burrowed holes, which leads to the last benefit, it's safe for humans!!! After all the research is in, it seems that the best (and really only) choice is to get P.E.R.C. and take care of the rodents in your field, eating your food, quickly and easily!
