The BlackBerry Torch 9810's main claim to fame is that it's a better version of the original Torch smartphone. There is much to be expected from the Torch 9810 then because the original Torch was a fairly successful model. And to have something improve upon it can only mean good things. Released alongside the BlackBerry models Torch 9850/9860 and Bold Touch 9900/9930, the Torch 9810 built upon what worked so well with the original Torch and addressed whatever faults the Torch had then. The BlackBerry Torch 9810 is running on a 1.2GHZ processor with 768 MB of RAM, powered by the latest version of the BlackBerry operating system, 7. The latest BlackBerry 7, as claimed by RIM, offers 40 percent faster browsing than the last version, and is 100% faster than BlackBerry 5. This is ideal for RIMs introduction of Liquid Graphics technology utilizing a dedicated processor for graphics to offer smoother panning, zooming, and scrolling. Fondly called by some people as Torch 2, the BlackBerry Torch 9810 features a hybrid form factor with the 3.2-inch touchscreen sliding up to make way for a keyboard that is somewhat more comfortable to use than what the original Torch had, what with the keyboard made to be wider than the original. As for browsing, there were mixed reviews for the BlackBerry Torch 9810. Some had no problem at all, while there were others that had to deal with lag time when zooming in. However, when it comes to simply navigating through the main operating system, reviews are united in saying that there was perfect fluidity, with emails and contacts and home screens opening up and scrolling beautifully. The BlackBerry Torch 9810 also has a 5MP camera that quickly loads. As for form, the BlackBerry Torch 9810 feels like a very solid phone even if it does have moving parts due to the slider mechanism for the keyboard. Since the keyboard is wider, it is easier to use in general, but those with bigger thumbs will need to spend a little bit more time getting used to using the keyboard fitted with the Torch 9810. The slider mechanism itself is very smooth to use and yet locks in place securely. There's still the old, reliable BlackBerry Messenger so you can send messages to anyone else who is using a BlackBerry model free of charge. In conjunction with augmented reality functions offered by the Wikitude App and the magnetic compass built in within the phone, just point your BlackBerry Torch 9810 in any direction and nearby BBM users will be tracked down so you can interact with them. Even personalized avatars will pop up on your screen as a BBM user is tracked. While augmented reality features are nothing new, integration into specific features offered by BlackBerry models is a unique move from RIM that deserves a lot of merit. The BlackBerry Torch 9810 may be acquired through Rogers, Telus, Bell, and AT&T for subscribers in North America.
