The upcoming Pacquiao-Marquez bout in November 12, 2011 had again set the Philippines in uproar. Left and right, from the Philippines and the rest of the world, Filipinos and foreigners alike had started to make their bets on which of these brave champions will come out of the fight as the winner. But before the fight, let’s first weigh-in the facts about how this fight started, of why Juan Manuel Marquez had been at Pacquiao’s heels from the time he had started to make a career in boxing, up-til now that his known as the Pound-per-Pound King. The First Fight The first fight that ever took place between Pacquiao and Marquez was in May 8 of 2004, in which Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao is on a roll after beating Marco Antonio Barrera in November 15, 2003 which won him The Ring Featherweight World Title, which made Pacquiao as the first Asian to have ever held three titles in three separate divisions. The fight between Pacquiao and Marquez resulted in a draw, in which many Filipinos, particularly from Pacquiao’s team, had protested due to the fact that Márquez was caught cold, as he was knocked down three times by Pacquiao, yet the referee still didn’t call off the fight. The Second Fight It was four years after their first bout that Marquez had called for a rematch calling it the “Unfinished Business”. This time, Pacquiao won with a split decision. The fight was held at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas in March 15 of 2008. This victory won Pacquiao the WBC Super Featherweight and The Ring Junior Lightweight World Titles, which had again set a new record which placed Pacquiao as the first Asian to have won 4 different titles in 4 different divisions, recognizing him as the four-division world champion. At the post fight, Marquez had again demanded a rematch between him and the now known as Pound-per-Pound King, Manny Pacquiao. However, though Pacquiao was offered a $6 million dollar guarantee by Richard Schaefer, Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Pacquiao had turned down the rematch, and said that “the business is over”. The Upcoming Fight This year, the most awaited rematch between Pacquiao and Marquez will happen in November 12, 2011. According to Latest News of Pacquiao, the “People’s Champ” had already started his training a few months ago a few weeks after the announcement of a Pacquiao-Marquez 3 battle. Sports analysts had said that this fight will be very different from their previous bouts, particularly now that both men had been hardened since their last fight 3 years ago. Marquez, who had undergone serious and heavy training, which also involves drinking his own urine, had promised that he will take down the “Mexicutioner” with a knock-out. Hopefully, this will be one of Pacquiao’s final battles as Latest on Manny Pacquiao had revealed that the Pound-per-Pound King will retire in 2013, promising that he’ll focus all his attention in his new career as a Philippine law-maker.
