Old age has its own problems and woes. Arthritis, back pain, joint pain, hip pain are some of the most common pains that people suffer from. Hip arthritis is one such problem that is quite common in older people. There are many procedures of preservation of the aging hip, hip resurfacing being the most common one. With old age, calcium in the body begins to corrode, making the bones weaker and brittle. Thus fractures and breaking of bones is quite common in old age. It also takes a long time for people of this age to recuperate from such accidents as the bones refuse to join together fast. When the problem arises with the hip, it becomes all the more difficult as the person cannot even sit with a problem in the hip area. Hip resurfacing can be of immense help in some situations, but in more critical conditions, there is no option left but to adopt for total hip replacement. Both hip resurfacing and hip replacement are methods of preservation of the aging hip. Older people mainly resort to hip resurfacing or total hip replacement when the situation of hip arthritis goes beyond toleration. Surgery is the last option that is chosen when all the conservative modes of treatments like exercises, weight reduction and painkillers etc fail. Orthopedics have also opined that hip resurfacing is one of the best methods of preservation of the aging hip. People can resume their daily activities in the same way after some days of hip resurfacing, which is quite difficult in case of total hip replacement. It requires a lot of time to get back to normal life after replacement of the hip. If you are planning for resurfacing your hip, the surgeon should make sure that you have good bone stock; otherwise the surgery will not be effective for a long period of time. With less bone stock, there are high chances of hip injuries and hip fractures post hip resurfacing. However, the preservation of the aging hip can be done in a much better way through hip resurfacing rather than through total hip replacement. Lots of precautions and care need to be taken by the patient after hip resurfacing is done. If that is not done and the patient tries to overdo things, it might prove to have a negative impact on the surgery. In the initial stages after hip resurfacing, the patient will have to walk with the help of a crutch so that direct pressure is not put on the hips. There are also some sitting postures that are recommended and prescribed by the surgeons. There are hip guards available in the market that provide extra protection to the hip post operation. Infact this is a great help in preservation of the aging hip. Even if there is any external pressure, the hip guard protects from having a direct impact on the area of the surgery. Be careful in buying the proper hip guards as there are separate hip guards for males and females.
