The most recent study done in Canada that could potentially save millions of lives. Research shows that eating certain foods, people can significantly reduce their cholesterol and improve their chances of avoiding heart disease or stroke. What is known as the Western diet emphasizes meat and saturated foods, but in the present time there is a movement for a healthy diet. Supportive care doctors, health officials, government officials and first lady Michel Obama that encourages school children to exercise more and eat more fruits and vegetables. Proper nutrition and regular physical activity are important for maintaining healthy cholesterol levels. Cholesterol is a type of fat. It helps build and maintain cells. But there are different types of cholesterol. Type called HDL promotes heart health, while the other called LDL, contributes to heart disease. The usual advice is to reduce intake of animal fats, or fats that are solid at room temperature. These fats are a source of LDL cholesterol. But it is also known that certain foods help lower bad cholesterol. "Vegetables such as okra and eggplant, all this is somehow slimy. These kinds of vegetables removes cholesterol from the body," says Dr. Michelle Moore from the hospital in Ontario. Canadian medical doctor Michelle Moore studied the people who followed a reduced calorie diet which included the listed foods. He wanted to investigate whether their cholesterol levels lower than for those who only consume low-calorie foods. Benny Dawnland was among the first group. "Change was something like increasing the amount of fibrous foods in my diet." In the study, participated in 300 men and women. All were taking medication to reduce cholesterol. Those who followed the diet increased also took food which is known to reduce bad cholesterol - apples, grapes, strawberries, certain cereals and vegetables, stone fruits, olive oil or canola oil, beans and soybeans and their products. Six months later, researchers check for results. Those who ate the food that lowers cholesterol levels were 13 to 14 percent lower levels of bad cholesterol. Those who watched only the low-calorie diet had a reduction of only 3 percent. Dr. Michelle Moore said that the results should encourage people who have high cholesterol. "They can change their own level of bad cholesterol as it will go to good nutrition," says Dr. Moore. "I'd like to reduce cholesterol with diet program, but I need to take medication." agrees Benny. If you want to lower fat intake, try appetite suppressants. Products like Hoodia pills are derived from the Hoodia Gordonii plant. The researchers also noted that another positive effect of the additional low-calorie diet was that the participants in the study also reduced the level of blood pressure. The study was published in the Journal of the International Medical Association.
