I wrote this note in response to How Will They Feel - I think it has enough merit to start a new thread. Enhancing our bodies through surgery when we cannot do it through our own efforts makes sense, BUT, reality and reason have to factor in. No two breasts on the face of the earth are exactly the same....here is my reply to this lady's dilema - which is her ps has recommended saline to better adjust a 35 cc difference in her breast size and her concern is how will the implants feel - - my concern for her is realizing that no matter which device she and her surgeon choose - her breasts will NEVER be exactly the same. They will be fuller, firmer and bigger - but never the same.
First reply ~
ok - if 35 cc is the difference - then in my opinion, it is really not an assymetry! We ALL have differences - no two breasts are the same going into surgery or coming out. That is one of my favorite things about the High Five System! When Tebbetts measures a patient - he and the patient - quantify the differences at consult - look at them in the images/photos and the patient gets to see what the surgeon truly has to work with. All breasts are different. If you know about it and understand that they will NEVER match - listen carefully here because this is a really important concept - no two breasts will ever match, so if they won't why not just live with the differences you have always lived with?
Let me clarify my statement - if you have one breast that is smaller and tighter than the other and you put more implant into it to try to match the other breast - - there will be NO room for the added volume and it will bulge in the upper breast - whereas the other breast will not have that fullness - so you put a bigger implant in the smaller size breast hoping to match volume (the difference between breast tissue in one implant volume in the other) - but one looks like a Boob Job and the other looks pretty - - so what have you done???
Rest assured - no two are alike and the more you try to monkey with them and make them that way......the more trouble you will create long term. PS don't like to tell you that they cannot fix something - they want you to believe they can fix anything, but if you were not symmetrical to begin with......?????
This might make more sense if you look at the Funnel illustration about how to determine size on the book website www.thebestbreast.com under articles.
Please know - a fuller, firmer breast is always better - just don't expect them to be perfect. That is too much to ask for a device or a surgeon. Having said that, with the data we have now, silicone breast implants may be a better option for you long term.
response ~
That makes a lot of sense! During my consult, my PS stressed to me that all breasts, surgery or not, are "sisters" not "twins", as so many people like to refer to them!
My reply ~
I LOVE the way your ps explained that to you!! It really puts the right perspective on it and as long as everyone's expectations are in line - happy patients follow....
Another response ~
OMG Terrye you made so much sence! Thank you! I can finally stop stressing myself out about a slight difference!
Another one ~
This is good to know. One of my breasts is almost 1 cm higher than the other. My PS says she can't fix that without moving the nipple which she did not recommend & I am not interested in. Is this your take as well?
And my final reply ~
Yes - I agree with your ps - because even if she can move it 1 cm - now that nipple will have a scar around it and the other one won't - so they will STILL BE DIFFERENT! I don't know how old you are, but you have lived with that little 1 cm for as long as you have been around, so yes, live with the difference and don't stress over it - just enjoy your new "sisters" when it's all said and done and don't chase the set of elusive "Twins"!
