The United States is about to mark the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11th. It is quite hard to imagine that it has been ten years already. Over two thousand Americans died on that dark Tuesday ten years ago. The attacks focused on the World Trade Center in New York City, and the Pentagon in Virginia. It is truly a day that millions of Americans will not soon forget. Almost every American can recall what they were doing when they first learned of the attack. The events that unfolded that day were a series of shocking events and updates. September 11th was the largest attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor, which is another event that we have not forgotten. There are many different ceremonies that will take place in honor of the victims of September 11th, but the opening of the memorial at the World Trade Center site is the ceremony that is main event. In honor of the victims, many different companies are either sponsoring portions of the events or donating valuable supplies to the victims’ families and/or emergency responders. One industry that is giving whole heartedly is the pulse oximeter industry. A pulse oximeter, also known as a pulse ox, is a medical device used to measure blood oxygen saturation and pulse rate of an individual. Many companies from within the oximeter industry have banded together to provide over three thousand pulse oximeters to be donated to emergency responders throughout the country. Donations such as this will make a big difference to emergency responders. As the economy has been struggling, even fire and police departments throughout the country have been struggling to make ends meet. Budgets are quite tight, and every little bit of help will go a long way; especially for a device that is critical to their operations. The ceremonies will focus on the lost lives, but any help that can be made to the victim’s families and emergency responders will gladly be accepted. That was the message from various organizations within New York and Washington D.C. Over the past ten years, the United States has gone through many changes. The level of security in this country has risen many times over, and for good reason. September 11th, will be a day of remembrance, but also a day to further see how we can protect our people and country.
