Whether you admit it or not, everyone has insecurities about their appearance. Some have a problem with a specific area, some are just incomfortable in their own skin. It's a fair assumption that even the most confident of us have a desire to change something. One of the areas we are most conscious of is our stomach. Not only can it appear unsightly but often times it is also very uncomfortable to have a bloated tummy. Men with beer guts and ladies trying to get a flat stomach both experience that yuck feeling sometimes. Firstly, think about what you are consuming. Are you eating a lot of processed foods and drinking alcohol? By this I mean is your whole diet for the day around these things. I recently wrote down what I had eaten for a few days and was shocked. I had been homebound with a sick child, unable to go shopping and had just eaten biscuits and sandwiches for two days. I can honestly say that I felt a little like a baby elephant trying to carry my daughter up the stairs, bloated and tired. The next day I made a few small changes to see if it would help, not a drastic diet but sensible options mixed in with the convenience things. I still had my toast with butter at breakfast but changed my white bread cheese sandwich to tuna on wholemeal for lunch and had fruit with each meal. I also refrained from biscuits and potato chips which I often turn to when I am tired and in a rush. Teatime I had pasta and chicken with a cheese sauce so obviously I'm not going full on healthy here! I have found that one of the biggest things for me is increasing my water intake and the reduced hot drinks. I am making sure I get a walk, go to the park or just play with my toddler for a while every afternoon. I am doing a few sit ups and walking up and down my stairs but nothing too drastic. The main change is the reduction of starchy foods and more fruit and veggies. A few days in and my stomach is much less bloated and I feel better. I have not lost heaps of weight but I am confident that is these small changes can do this it is possible to make a significant change if I apply myself properly. As my initial few days have been successful I am going to keep a blog of the changes I make and how I progress. I intend to add recipes and exercises and recommendations of anything I've found useful. I also have some pictures of me but the jury is out at the moment on whether I will publish them.
