Well pump systems provide many people with the water that they drink and are able to use in their homes for common household activities. Maintaining these well pump systems becomes an important priority because they provide the water and must be kept in perfect running order. Luckily, there are several maintenance tips that can be applied to make the task much more convenient. One of the first tips for well pump systems maintenance is to perform a check at least once a year. This check should include a bacterial test to insure that the water being pumped through the water systems is clean and pure. Whenever there is a source of drinking water like the well pump systems, they should be checked more frequently if there is a change in odor, taste, or appearance. The water systems should also be checked anytime that it is repaired. A step that can be followed to reduce the chance of the water becoming contaminated is by keeping any and all hazardous chemicals and items far away from the well pump systems. These items include items like fertilizer used for gardens or plant growth, paint from painting projects around the house or yard, pesticides that are used to rid the yard or house of insects and other pests, and motor oil that may be left from oil changes. Another way that these substances might unintentionally get into the well pump systems is by putting the hose into their containers when mixing them with water to then be distributed. By keeping the hose outside when mixing the chemicals, the hose will not be contaminated and there is less risk that contamination of the whole water supply will occur. Another tip for maintaining well pump systems adequately is by ensuring that the landscaping near and around the well is designed to allow for proper drainage and eliminated buildup of snow during the winter, leaves during the fall, and other materials throughout the year from blocking, covering, or damaging the top of the well pump systems. If the well cap and seal are placed at least one foot above the ground and the slope around the well is directed away from the well cover, there will be the drainage necessary to keep the water within the well pump system clean and free from contaminants. One additional tip to maintain well pump systems is to be careful when working around or cleaning near the well cover. Damage of the cover can result in prompt and undesirable contamination of the well itself. People are best served by cleaning around the well with caution so as to avoid any damage. For example, if there is a need to mow the grass or weeds around the well cap, it is much better to avoid using a riding lawn mower as there may not be sufficient control to avoid damaging the well pump systems. It is much better to ere on the side of caution and to spend a little more time cutting the grass with shears. Well pump systems will serve people for many years when maintained correctly.
