The City's of Ireland

Travel & Tourism,Business

Ireland, the land of saints and scholars is a wonderful place to visit at the moment. From the West Coast to the East, there is a very different lifestyle on offer for those wishing to make a visit to the country.

Dublin

Ireland’s capital offers a very different experience to that of other areas of the country. Dublin, like most capital cities is faster paced than other areas of the country. It is also a cultural hub and has been home to some of the world’s greatest writers for centuries now.

The city is divided into North and South sides of the Liffey, and this is very evident after a little while in the city - the stronger Dublin accent on the north side and the softer one on the south. Grafton Street is very obviously south side and a trip to Brown Thomas is a must if you are staying this side. The department store is Ireland’s answer to Harrods and is an institution in the capital.

The National Gallery is also not far from the area and showcases some of the country’s artistic talent, from Jack B Yeats to others, as well as including some international artists. There is also a great live music scene in the city and a trip to some of the pubs on offer will make this clear, Whelan’s is worth a visit for those looking for some music and some drinks.

Galway

Across on the West Coast is Galway, this small city offers big surprises as well as lots of fun for those willing to indulge. The city is nearly wall to wall with festivals for most of the better months of the year and hosts most famously The Galway Oyster Festival, The Galway Races and The Galway Arts Festival.

The city offers a wide selection of entertainment for those looking for any of the aforementioned as well as a taste of old Ireland. It is also a very pretty place and has a great night life, which though different from Dublin’s, is just as good in its own way.

The areas surrounding the city give a wonderful taste of rural Irish life and Connemara shows Ireland as a beautiful and rustic area. Galway is also close to many other attractions, such as the awe inspiring Cliffs of Moher and the karst landscape called The Burren.

Cork

Cork is a different kettle of fish again. This port town is somewhat a mix of both Dublin and Galway. It doesn’t offer the rushed atmosphere of the former, nor is it as traditional as the latter – it lies in between.

The city has a bustling music scene, as well as all the shops and restaurants that you want. It is also home to some of the country’s most beautiful landscape, as well as a number of festivals, such as the Cork Jazz Festival.

Cork is also home to a very strong hurling and football following and a trip to a match of either to see what all the fuss is about is a must when in the city.

Belfast

Belfast, situated in Northern Ireland is also more than certainly worth a visit. It most definitely has a very different feel to the rest of the country, though it is awash with history and culture.

The city is also a great one for going out in and also has numerous shows in the Odyssey, if you feel the need. It is also home to the famous Titanic and Harland and Wolfe’s ship yard and the two large cranes that made it are still visible. The Ulster Folk Museum, which is just outside the city is a must see and brings the history of the area alive. The amazing Giants Cause way is also in close proximity and is an amazing piece of geography to have a look experience. There are numerous Ireland deals that offer cheap hotels and other great deals in the area during your stay.
