A Weekend in London

Travel & Tourism,Business

London is one of the greatest cities on earth. The British capital offers a combination of culture old and new, wonderful food and a night life like none other. A trip to London is the perfect weekend getaway, offering you the perfect chance to see enough over a few days and still leave you with the want to come back to experience more the next time.

So, what are the best things to see on a trip to the UK capital, what are the, must sees, the must dos and the, have to haves?

South Bank

The South Bank, called so due to its side of the River Thames, is a must see for those that want to experience culture and good food. The Tate Modern is one of the essential visits on a trip to London. Its mix of modern artists is phenomenal and aside from the works that are always there, there are a number of artists who come and go every year, so it won’t be unlikely to pick up an exhibition on a world famous artist or movement when there.

On the other side of the Tate Modern is Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. The circular complex looks the same as it did when the Bard of Stratford Upon Avon walked the earth and tickets are available to see shows in the theatre to a range of the great mans classics.

There are also a number of wonderful restaurants along the waterfront as well as numerous other attractions from time to time. It also offers amazing views of the city with a quick peak up the River Thames. London offers many city deals, so keep an eye out.

Trafalgar Square

Just a short walk from the South Bank is Trafalgar Square, named after the famous Battle of Trafalgar, the squares centre piece is the stature of Lord Nelson. However, this is not its gem; the square also is home to the National Gallery, this offers some of the most wonderful pieces of art on the island and is a must see when visiting London, take a few hours though as it is very large.

The National Portrait Gallery is also just around the corner. This offers some of the best portraits the world has to offer as well as collections from some of the world’s greatest artists from time to time. Trafalgar Square is also home to some of the city’s best street artists and is so a great place to pass away the hours with a little entertainment.

Covent Garden

The area where the play Pygmalion/ My Fair Lady is based is also a wondrous place. The large market is still in place and looks just as it did back when the book was written by G.B.Shaw.

Covent Garden’s market is a great cavern of odds and ends as well as nice shops, restaurants and live music and culture. There is also a wide selection of theatres playing some of the city’s most popular plays and shows in the area.

Covent Garden can also be a great place to spend a night out and has a great selection of bars and restaurants on offer for those wishing to indulge in a little night time activity.

Camden Town

A little bit further out of the city centre is Camden. This area is a night spot and hub and is packed full of the city’s cooler and more zany types. It is also home to numerous pubs of all sorts as well as clubs such as Coco.

Camden Market is also a great place to pick up odds and ends from the necessary to the very bizarre. There is certainly a very hippy/ alternative feel about the area and it is also extremely lose to Primrose Hill and the very pretty Hampstead areas, which once more offer a different kind of London that, will entertain you. Hampstead’s delis and restaurants are a great place to nab a bite to eat and Primrose Hill offers wonderful views across the top of the city.

These two areas can also be great for a few drinks on a Sunday or for picking up some clothes in a nice boutique.

London offers some fantastic city deals for those willing to make the trip for a weekend or even longer.
