What is an EMR? An EMR, or Electronic Medical Record, is a system developed to improve or enhance medical practices in different healthcare institutions, particularly in franchise in hospitals. So what benefits can healthcare providers and institutions have or experience when using an EMR? Uses of EMR As new technologies are developed, many new devices and systems were introduced to further improve how healthcare providers provide medical services to their patients. An EMR, such as a pediatric emr, was some of those systems which were developed for this purpose. So what can an EMR system do? The primary goal of EMR is the facilitation of patient’s records, making it easier for healthcare providers to store, retrieve, and modify their patient’s health records. However, this is usually applicable for large healthcare institutions. Small healthcare institutions, such as clinics as well as small hospitals, can’t take advantage of its cost-cutting advantage due to the fact that these systems are still very expensive. Improved Medical Services Another reason why EMR systems, like a pediatric EMR, is because of its improved medical practices which can give healthcare providers with decision support. Fast access to medical literature and current best practices in medicine are hypothesised to enable proliferation of ongoing improvements in healthcare efficacy. In addition to that, the use of EMR systems had also eliminated a number of medical errors which is commonly caused by the use of paper-based records. Electronic records help with the standardization of forms, terminology and abbreviations, and data input. Digitization of forms facilitates the collection of data for epidemiology and clinical studies. Faster Information Sharing Another important aspect of using EMR systems is that it allows healthcare insititutions to quickly share their medical records to other healthcare institutions. In addition to that, data from an electronic system can be used anonymously for statistical reporting in matters such as quality improvement, resource management and public health communicable disease surveillance. Although EMR systems can be used for faster sharing of medical records, these are usually secured and are updated regularly for its security purposes.
