From the name of POM PFTE, we know that this is a kind of compound. Actually, the mixture of POM and PFTE can greatly multiply the original abrasive resistance of POM. This compound can be used to manufacture teflon film. Due to the low free energy existing in the surface of PTFE, it's hard to perfectly mix the two sorts of material, which results in poor cohesion between them. The poor cohesive performance of POM PTFE may bring about macroscopic separation of the two sorts of substances, which may reduce the overall performance of the polymer. Besides, since the particles of Ptfe rod are easy to be united, the existence of POM with high viscosity may affect the well-distribution of PTFE particles. Consequently, there is a need to conduct special treatment with the surface of PTFE in order to improve the compatibility of these two substances. There are two sorts of treatment methods: chemical treatment and physical treatment. The much preferable way is to apply the THF sodium to the PTFE for chemical treatment. Just pick a certain level of pre-dry PT-FE powder and dip it into the THF sodium for 3 to 5 minutes. After that, pick some acetone to wash it twice and bake the filtered substance put inside the vacuum oven with 70 to 80 Celsius degree. After the chemical treatment, the surface properties of PTFE have been greatly changed and can realize good compatibility with POM. Due to the great difference in melting temperature between PTFE and POM, the mixture can be seen as the entire process of the well-proportioned dispersion of PTFE particles in POM. During this process, the mechanical feature of POM may be greatly reduced. During the chemical treatment, PTFE produces some NaF at the surface. When POM is mixed with PTFE, the NaF will exert a similar function to that of coupling agent, which will enhance the compatibility of POM and PTFE. Meanwhile, during this process, PTFE particles will get loosed and dispersed with much space between each other caused by the smashing of airflow. Subsequently, PTFE particles can be well dispersed amid POM. When the content of PTFE substance reaches 10%, the mechanical property of this polymer can be the best. This is partly because of the coupling agent of NaF which betters the bounding force of POM PTFE. But if the content of PTFE is less than 10%, the coupling effect exerted by NaF will fail to bind the two substances well. Actually, the combination of POM and PTFE is much more complicated than what I have stated above. In general, POM PTFE can over perform the substance of POM or PTFE individually.
