Congratulations on the birth of your newborn. Your house is now filled with sounds and a new life that makes your life complete, doesn't it? It also, to be honest, makes your life a lot more hectic, especially if your little one is a newborn and if it's your first – and you're like most of us – you want to monitor every little cry or cough or gurgle. Who doesn't want to do this? It's programmed somewhere in our genes. When you have a new life in the house you suddenly want to protect it and care for it and generally shield it from anything that might bother it. If you've done your planning correctly, you already know that you have to have a baby monitor right by the infant's crib; and you also want to have receivers all over your house or apartment, right? This is so you can hear your infant and rush to it if anything seems amiss. Actually, there's nothing wrong with relying on the good old-fashioned baby monitoring systems that have been around for years. They are sensitive and they let you know what is going on in your baby's nursery. However, if you want to go a little more high tech, what about using a crib-mounted camera (real-time) that is interfaced with a high-speed laptop (for an infant, money should never be an object but, if it is, you can still find some pretty good deals on auction sites) so that you can then use that laptop as a server to stream the video to any room in your home. Think about it, if you use streaming video, you can actually see what your baby is doing and if you use real-time audio feeds, you'll also hear what is going on at the same time. The right software is out there. It monitors accurately what your baby is doing. Microsoft makes a type of software called “Net meeting” that you can use as the basis of your system. You may have to play with it a bit, but you can make it do pretty much anything you want. You can also rely on Microsoft's media software as the background, if you opt for the high-tech solution. Whether you use the standard baby monitor – it's radio-based and works very well – or if you decide to go upscale and use a high-tech solution, you'll find that you are taking great care of your baby and you'll be glad you are.
