Teachers who are planning to take their pupils on school trips could be tempted to consider heading to Europe, as the continent offers plenty of opportunities for students to expand their knowledge in a matter of different subjects. Educational tours can prove valuable to youngsters as it gives them a chance to get face-to-face with the topics they are learning about in the classroom. And whether they are studying science, geography, history or art, Europe has a wide variety of sights and attractions to visit where they can discover more about the subject. France is one popular destination for school trips as it is not only is easy to get to, but there are a number of galleries, historical monuments and areas of interest to explore. Head to Paris and walk through the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa on an art trip, or sample some of the nation's delicious cuisine if your pupils are learning about home economics. Normandy is also a much-visited destination for history students as pupils can go on battlefield walks, see World War II bunkers and head to the D-Day landing beaches to get closer experience of the atrocious events of the 20th century. You will get the chance to learn more about what happened during the war and see the devastating consequences. History students may also appreciate a visit to Italy. This nation not only has plenty to see with regards to 20th century events, but also its ancient past. Head to Il Foro - the Forum - and the Coliseum, situated in the heart of Rome, where you can walk among ancient Roman ruins. Or art students may prefer to head to the Sistine Chapel, where they can see the authentic work of Michelangelo. A visit to Rome wouldn't be complete without taking in St Peter's Basilica and visiting the Vatican City whether your pupils are taking religious studies classes or not, as the buildings are some of the most important in the Catholic world - as well as being beautiful to look at. One thing that Italy is renowned for is its food and teenagers learning how to cook may want to take advantage of its delicious cuisine to discover new flavours and develop their appreciation of international meals. Geography students will also find a trip to Mount Vesuvius interesting as they can walk around the live volcano, where they can gain a greater understanding into of natural disasters. They can even explore Old Pompeii, an ancient city that was destroyed in 79 AD by a volcanic explosion. Germany may also be on your list of countries to visit, as the nation has a range of art and fashion galleries to explore. It is also well worth exploring for history pupils as they can visit the Jewish Museum, detailing the important events for German Jews over 2,000 years. You can also see remnants of the Berlin Wall, enabling historical events that pupils learn about in class to really come alive. If you're planning on taking your class on school trips to Europe you may want to head to Germany, Italy or France as these three nations offer plenty of attractions and sights that will enable students to learn more.
