Despite the fact that computers have been with us for quite some time, there is limited knowledge about certain aspects. This is the ignorance on which many computer manufacturers capitalize. There are numerous myths about computers and their hardware that are based on the ignorance of consumers on which the manufacturers thrive. What are these myths? To start with, many people believe that they need the latest computer hardware for better performance. This myth is actually based on past experience when new computer hardware would enhance the performance of the computer considerably. Unfortunately, this is not applicable any more, as new hardware does not change the performance of computers that much these days. This underlines the fact that any hardware that may have been useful or effective in the past will still be effective enough in current times. Secondly, there is the general feeling that computer hardware is a very complicated and complex world, best left to experts. In the past, this may actually have held some water. You would have needed an expert for the simplest of tasks, especially at the beginning of the computing era. However, this is not true anymore. Desktop computers have become so common that it is not much of a hassle to understand the basics pertaining to computer hardware. Consumers are now actually in a position to readily access some knowledge about them. Third, many people believe that they have to upgrade their computers in order to speed their performance. As much as upgrading your computer improves the speed of its performance, there are definitely other ways to do it. There are numerous things that could slow down the performance of the computer. In most cases, it is overloading of the computer hardware with unnecessary files or programs. Viruses and other types of malware also slow down the machine. There is also a misconception that the internet speed is determined by the speed of the computer. This however does not hold any water. As you may know, the speed of the internet is determined by other factors like the packages that you make use of. For example, cable internet will lead to a higher connection speed compared to a dial-up connection. Lastly, it is commonly thought that the popular brands are the best. This is definitely not applicable across the board. In most cases, the manufacturers will choose the parts to include in their brands which in most cases will be very expensive, so you will be required to pay more for the computers.
