Enjoy the great outdoors in Manchester by visiting many of the city’s beautiful parks. For the more energetic, Manchester also offers a range of outdoor activities and skate parks. Heaton Park covers an area of 247 hectares and is located 4 miles north of Manchester City Centre. There are a number of listed buildings situated within the park, including the beautiful grade I listed Heaton House. This large parkland plays host to a vast range of events throughout the year from funfairs and firework displays to theatre productions. As well as this, the park is also commonly used as a venue for conferences and wedding ceremonies. The park offers an array of things to do, with an animal centre providing tours and donkey rides for children. Heaton Park also hosts two wonderful play areas for children as well as a number of sporting opportunities, from fishing and rowing, to football and bowls. Wythenshawe Park is located in the area of Wythenshawe to the south of Manchester City Centre. The park covers an area of 109 hectares and hosts a range of annual events throughout the year. The park is home to three grade II listed buildings, with many landscape features including stunning wildflower meadows and beautiful flower displays. The park also offers a recently opened Courtyard Tearoom to the public. Skateboarding is a very popular activity in Manchester and encourages the young to exercise and socialise. There are two major purpose built skate parks which have recently been developed in Manchester and are situated in Platt Fields Park in Central Manchester and on London Road in the area of Ardwick, to the south east of the city centre. These parks offer skaters the perfect environment to advance and perfect their skills in safe surroundings. As well as this, there are a number of other skate parks within the area of Manchester offering local facilities. Debdale Outdoor Centre is run By Manchester City Council and offers a fantastic array of activities and facilities for all ages and abilities. The Debdale Outdoor Centre is situated to the south east of Manchester City Centre nearby to the area of Gorton. The centre provides a range of practical and theory learning for a range of courses including windsurfing, rock climbing, abseiling and orienteering to name but a few.
