Summer is here again, and for those of us who have worked hard throughout the spring to get our beach bodies ready, sometimes those last few pesky pounds can be difficult to get rid of. No matter how hard you work, sometimes your body naturally reaches a weight plateau, and that can be extremely difficult and frustrating to try and break through. Follow these tips to help break through your plateau and lose those last five pounds. - Intensify your workout routine. If you’ve been working out for a long time, your body can grow accustomed to the workout routine that you have. Shake it up a bit by adding in exercises or toning moves that you haven’t routinely been doing. If you are a current member of a fitness club, such as one of the many gyms in Birmingham, join one of the classes that you’ve always wanted to join. Try step aerobics, dancercise, zumba, or take a spinning class. Try a new type of exercise and see if you get results.
- Intensify your strength training. Again, your muscle groups can quickly become used to the amount of resistance that you have been using in your strength training. Add a few pounds if you think you can handle the additional weight. Add a few more repetitions. Try a new strength training apparatus. If you’ve been using resistance bands, try the next step up in resistance and see if that makes a difference in your fitness.
- Cut out one of your daily diet temptations. Eliminating just a hundred calories from your daily intake can make a big difference over time. If you have an extra tall latte every day during lunch, simply eliminate it and cut four or five hundred calories out of your diet. If you have a sandwich every day with your lunch, switch to a low calorie mayonnaise instead of a full mayonnaise and cut out another hundred calories. Switch from regular soda to diet soda, or better yet, switch from regular soda to water. Water is very good for helping you reach your fitness goals.
- Be accepting of your body. This message sounds contradictory, but it isn’t. If you’re struggling to lose those last five pounds, don’t focus on what you haven’t been able to do-focus on the progress that you’ve made and how good you feel about the results that you have. Keep in mind that your body is beautiful and functional and sometimes those last five pounds don’t really matter.
