Different Differences of Interpretation and Translation

Real Estate
Interpretation and translation are two different professions with different services, but with similar purposes. While interpretation involves taking a message from the source language and renders that message simultaneously or consecutively into a message understandable by the target language it is intended, translation involves the transference of meaning from text to text, with the translator having time and access to resources.

In addition to that, Interpretation and translation services are also different with each other. So what other aspects are different between interpretation and translation?

Types of Interpretation Services Unlike translations which only deal with only one type of service, interpretation mostly deals with different types of interpretation services. Some of the most common are the simultaneous and consecutive interpretation.

While simultaneous interpretation deals with rendering the message in the target-language as quickly as he or she can formulate it from the source language, while the source-language speaker continuously speaks, consecutive translation normally involve the interpreter speaking only after the source-language speaker has finished speaking.

Other types of interpretation services are; whispered interpreting, in which the interpreter sits or stands next to the small target-language audience whilst whispering a simultaneous interpretation of the matter to hand; relay interpreting, which involve several target languages; and the liaison which involve relaying what is spoken to one, between two, or among many people.

Complexity of Translation from Interpretation Although it may seem that interpretation is much more complex compared to translation, many experts have said otherwise. The reason why translation is much more complex and sophisticated compared to interpretation is because if lacks the idea which is usually present in interpretation sessions. This makes it harder and time-consuming for translators to translate the source language into the target language as accurately as possible.

In addition to possessing knowledge of the source and the target language, translators must also be as experienced as they can be of the task at hand, particularly for sensitive cases such as medical and Legal translation services. This will allow translators to accurately translate the unique terms encountered in these tasks.

In addition to that, a translator must also have a keen sense of when to metaphrase or translate literally or to paraphrase. This is to assure true rather than spurious equivalents between the source- and target-language texts.
