Law enforcement agencies across the board land up with a very wide variety of goods that were seized, abandoned or lost. Every now and again, after complying with several regulations, these goods are sold on police auctions. Cash raised by these auctions are often placed into the budget of the agency concerned. Sales are also necessary to clear storage areas. The goods held in storage facilities are often seized because it was used in the perpetration of a crime. In many cases assets that were attained from the proceeds of crime are also confiscated. Other sources include property that was simply found abandoned or property that were found and handed in by honest citizens. If not claimed, it is eventually also sold. These sales are very popular because it is very often possible to buy items at excellent prices. In many cases the goods for sale are in excellent condition. Buyers need to be aware, however, that no goods may be returned and that no warranty is implied. Faulty goods are therefore the responsibility of the buyer. In some cases assets on sale have an outstanding lien. This is also the responsibility of the buyer. It is therefore important to perform due diligence ahead of time. Regulations require law enforcement agencies to publish sales in advance. Apart from publicizing the date, time and location of the sale, a description of all the goods that will be offered for sale must also be given. This publication also provides a last chance for claiming back property that was lost. Most agencies require that the goods, once purchased, must be removed from the premises at the cost of the buyer. Buyers need to be careful when buying from these sales. There is no question that the agent handling the sale is dishonest, but it is the responsibility of the buyer to ensure the desired items are in good working condition. Large assets need to be investigated to ensure that there is no outstanding lien. Buyers should always view goods ahead of time. These sales often offer incredible opportunities. Many buyers are able to attain assets that they would not have been able to own in any other way. The confiscation and sale of assets that were used for criminal intent is also seen as fair and apt. Cash raised by these sales are often used to fund law enforcement agencies and programs. In this way taxpayers are protected and criminals help pay for the prevention of crime. Many people find it worthwhile to stay up to date on all events of this nature. In some cases they are searching for a particular asset at a particular price. There are many websites and government databases that offer detailed information about these events. In some cases it is even possible to sign up for regular newsletters regarding forthcoming events. There can be no doubt that bargain hunters simply love police auctions. Many serious buyers attend events all over the country. In many cases, purchases are made on behalf of a third party. Dealers in luxury goods and second hand dealers also frequent these events. Individual buyers are advised to exercise care and to stay within the budget.
