Top ten items to buy when renovating your kitchen

Travel & Tourism
Renovating your kitchen can help to improve your quality of life. Whether you have an open-plan kitchen-diner or a traditional country-style room, you are sure to spend hours in there and ensuring it is bright and practical makes a lot of sense.

Remodelling a kitchen takes a lot of planning and you have to work out how you intend to achieve a balance between style and functionality. Fortunately there are now hundreds of products on the market that can help you achieve just that.

Narrowing down your selection can be tough, but here are just ten of the items that should be on your shopping list.

Kitchen sinks are something you cannot live without and while they are essentially practical items, there is no reason why they cannot be stylish as well.

An undermount model that slots nicely into your worktops may be a good choice, but you should also think about whether a double kitchen sink that will give you more flexibility when preparing food is right for you.

Next on your list should be a waste disposal unit. These items make getting rid of food waste a simple and hygienic task and will also reduce the amount of smelly rubbish you have to store until your next bin collection.

The other accessories you should consider in this part of the room are kitchen sink taps. While they may seem like relatively insignificant items in the greater design scheme, they can make a real difference to the look of the room. Choose traditional pillar taps for a period design or opt for a sleek monoblock or long levers for a more contemporary finish.

Another item you cannot, of course, be without is a cooker. Your choice will depend on factors such as the space you have and the type of fuel available, but with everything from single ovens to ranges on the market, you should find something suitable.

Pay particular attention to the hob, as it will make a big difference to how you cook and the overall look of the kitchen. Ceramic hobs are a great choice for rooms with a contemporary design.

You should also consider an accessory for your cooker in the form of an extractor hood or fan. This will help to remove steam and smoke from the kitchen as you cook, creating a more pleasant atmosphere for you and your family.

A fridge is another item you simply can't manage without. Before you sign off on the plans for your kitchen, think carefully about where to put the fridge and what size unit you should buy. Of course, if you have a utility room you may prefer to put your fridge there in order to create more space in the kitchen.

The units you choose will also have a huge impact on the final look of the room and your selection will be governed by personal taste and budget. Don't forget to think about practical storage solutions - pull out racks and corner units can create lots of extra space, which can be easily accessed.

You will also need to choose some worktops for your kitchen and again, your decision will largely be based on taste and budget. Remember to think about issues like how simple the material is to clean before making your final selection.

Another thing that will make a real difference to the look of your new kitchen is lighting. There are a host of options available, but it is a good idea to focus on low-energy products such as LED sets.

One final item it is easy to overlook when remodelling the room is a kitchen bin. It is well worth considering a model with compartments to make sorting waste for recycling easier.

For the best range of kitchen sinks take a look what Fitmykitchen has to offer. With a full range of double kitchen sinks and kitchen sink taps available, you are sure to find what you want.
