Depending on the climate that you live in, summer time can bring with it record temperatures and stifling humidity. If you live in an area that offers these steamy temperatures, you know that having a cool place to live is very important. While the summer weather can be a lot of fun to be outside and experiencing, it’s important to have a cool home and a cool office building in hottest temperatures. If you need a break from the oppressive heat, here are some tips for keeping your cool in the hot summer months. - Keep hydrated. (And no, soda doesn’t count!) When the temperatures rise, your water intake should rise also. Staying hydrated can make a huge difference with how well you deal with the heat. If you are really struggling with hydration, sports drinks that offer electrolytes can be a good emergency situation, but stick with water as your main source of hydration.
- Keep the air in your home or your office building circulating by using ceiling fans, window fans, or portable fans. It’s a proven fact that moving air feels cooler on your skin than stagnant air. Using ceiling fans to circulate the air in your home or your office can go a long way to staying cool inside.
- Keep your cooling unit serviced and in good working order. Make sure that your filters are clean, your ducts are clean, and that your vents aren’t blocked. If you need servicing for your system, find someone in your area, such as a Utah air conditioning contractor to help make sure that your system is going to keep you cool even on the hottest days of the year.
- Wear clothing that is made from natural fibers so that the materials breathe well. Synthetic fabrics can actually make you feel the temperatures more acutely because the hot air is locked against your skin. Natural fibers, such as cotton are ideal for the hottest days of the year.
- Don’t forget to take care of your skin. Even if you are dying to have that sun-kissed look, always use sunscreen if you are going to be outdoors for any length of time. Make sure that you use a waterproof sunscreen with a high enough SPF that will keep you protected from the potentially damaging rays of direct sun exposure. Skin cancer is not sexy, so make sure that you stay protected whenever you go outside.
