In treating OCD, it is very important to take prescribed medicines and follow the instructions on how to take it. Attending to individual or group therapy such as exposure and response prevention therapy will help a lot as well. In this therapy, a patient is repetitively exposed to an obsession, like the fear of being contaminated. He will deny the compulsive action like washing his hands. Therapist recommends the significance of the involvement of family members, loved ones and friends to this session. The family members must participate in a therapy in order to be familiar with OCD and through this misunderstanding will be eliminated in the family. They will be able to know some soothing practices to lessen anxiety and stress.

Reducing stress is not a treatment for OCD, but it helps a lot in a family to cope up with OCD member in the family. Some techniques to lessen stress are: breathing exercise by taking slow, deep breathing; taking a warm bath; listening to soft music like instrumental music; doing light exercises like walking; doing yoga exercises meditation: Yoga postures and meditative practices can help calm the mind, reducing anxiety and improving mental calmness; having spa and massage especially back rub; and drinking warm chocolate and milk.

Eating a nutritious, healthy and balanced diet is very essential.Diet should be rich in Vitamins, especially Vitamins B12, C and D. Also, including foods that are rich in magnesium and Omega fatty acids is advisable. Increase the take of essential fatty acids as this also helps a lot. A study shows that patients who included fish oil in their diet become relaxed and have a good sleeping pattern. Avoiding some foods and drinks like junk foods; food that are rich in monosodium glutamate; salty foods; and others; limiting or avoiding caffeine intake like coffee, tea, soda, dark chocolate. Caffeine intensifies stress. Moderate drinking of alcohol, for some people drink to relaxed but not moderately. They should limit alcohol intake to 1 to 2 drinks a day only.

Avoid eating too much when under stress, for some people tend to eat too much to comfort or calm them. Try some alternative actions like walking, taking a warm bath, or listening to music. The most important is not to skip meals, for some people miss out their lunch when they are feeling tension. Skipping meals makes more stress. So everyone must eat and enjoy his meals every meal time and must eat properly to avoid indigestion.
