I left college armed with my degree in Management Information and frankly I didn’t know what to do with my career. I had chosen that subject because I’d always had a thing for computers and when I was looking at courses I saw that it was one of the degrees most in demand by employers in 2008. I understand it is still very much in demand in 2011. Following some research into how best use my qualifications I decided that my career choice was Project Management. As I live in Virginia, there are already big advantages to having a degree in the IT Field and I have also established that PMP classes in Virginia are not difficult to find close to home. Why choose a career in IT in Virginia? It is encouraging that even though the US economy is pretty much stagnant, the state of Virginia is low in the ranks of US employment (11th from bottom as of April 2011). Thanks to the Dulles Corridor, there’s an area that is a creditable rival to California’s Silicon Valley. Northern Virginia particularly has experienced a rapid growth in Information Technology and related businesses. Partly fuelled by the growth stimulated by Government IT needs, the area along the Toll Road has become a desirable place for IT industries to locate and naturally, support industries have grown organically. This includes those who provide training employees to work in the IT companies – hence my lack of problem in finding Virginia PMP training. Why choose a career in Project Management I wanted my IT degree to be put be put to use in a career where I would still be involved in the industry sector but not specifically working with any particular machines or systems. Project Management takes all the skills I have learnt in my degree and more. IT is a hugely fast paced sector with obsolescence a major factor and new developments every day. Businesses need to keep up with the changing environments to maintain a market presence. Whether it’s a new business starting up or an existing one making its first foray into e-commerce, Project Managers are in huge demand to deliver business objectives and initiatives. Taking PMP classes in Virginia will qualify me to provide a relevant, valuable service to any industry, not just IT and I understand that my salary potential is up to 10% higher than unqualified staff in similar roles. Why PMP training will make me a valuable asset to any company The PMP training Virginia I have chosen covers the 6 key principles of successful project delivery Initiation Planning Execution Monitoring Closing And recognition of professional responsibility. Demonstrable expertise in these areas, my newly gained certification and my IT degree I am going to be able to show a comprehensive understanding of how to deliver to a business’s needs . I will be qualified to undertake projects in any industry, private or public sector, and my skills will be in demand worldwide. Having a PMP in control increases the efficiency of and the likelihood of success of any project and having a skilled, qualified PMP increases the success factor exponentially. After I have completed my PMP classes in Virginia, achieved qualification and am gainfully employed, I need to maintain my credentials to achieve certification renewal every 3 years but that is understandable and not onerous given my desire to become a valuable asset to any future employer.
