There are actually many types of carpets that are available to choose for one’s living room. One has to choose a type of carpet based on the type of room for which the carpet will be laid. If one is going to use the carpet in a room where the family members spend their maximum time together such as the living room and the dining room, then the family needs to go for a carpet is tough and stain resistant. Among all the carpets that are tough and stain resistant, nylon carpets are found to provide a good value for the money. They are extremely stain resistant and also will be able to withstand the wear and tear that the carpets in the living room and the dining room will be subjected to. Among the other type of carpets, wool is equally good to a nylon carpet in terms of the longevity of the life of the carpet. But when it comes to removing stains, they are quite inferior when compared to nylon carpets. The other type of carpets that can be given due consideration includes acrylic carpets, polyester carpets and Olefin carpets. When one wants to decide on the color for their carpets, then there are not too many alternatives that are available. When one is planning to go for a dark colored carpet such as black or dark blue, then some shoe marks may be clearly visible on these dark colored carpets. Similarly, on light colored carpets, any stain will leave a dark spot even after frequent cleaning. Light colored carpets will leave the stains of pet’s waste. Hence one should choose a combination of dark and light colored carpet such as a black and white checked carpet or a carpet where there are solid patterns, which is a mixture of dark and light colors. This combination will prevent any existing stains or footmarks to be visible to the visitor, because of the two contrasting colors that are present in the same area. Maintaining a carpet requires a dedicated effort from the family members. They can also consider employing housekeeping staff on a contract basis once a month to completely clean all the carpets in the house. By employing a dedicated person once in a month, the carpets will be given due care that is needed and the carpets will also last longer, making the extra expense and effort well worth it.
