There are dangerous and unhealthy situations in the community wherein, as children, you have to be aware of. There are safety skills that you have to know in order to protect yourself. Here are some of the skills that you have to take note and put into action when the need comes. You should memorize your personal information and you should know how to spell them. These include your full name, parents' name, address, home telephone number, parent's mobile number and the landmarks going to your home. By this way, if ever you will be lost in the mall or somewhere else, the authorities will be able to contact your family and will be able to locate your home. You should be able to recognize who to find help. Always call your parents whenever you feel you are in a dangerous situation. In their absence, ask help from a trustworthy neighbor. If you are in school, go to your teacher and tell him/her of the situation. You should also know how to dial 911 during an emergency. Always remember where to find the telephone numbers that your parents have written like the police station and fire department telephone numbers. Be familiar with opening or locking the doors of your house as well as be familiar with escape passages. During emergency, you can use the window as an escape. If you suspect a fire, touch the handle of the door first if it's hot. Do not open the door if it's hot but instead yell for help out of the window so your neighbors can hear it. When there is contact with flame, you should stop, drop and roll in order to stop the flame. You should avoid dangerous people. Always ask permission from your parents when you want to go outside or to your friend's house. If your parents will not allow you, then don't go. Never go alone. Always stick with your trusted friends or adults. You should not talk to people you do not know and you should not give out any personal information to them. You should avoid dangerous situations. Do not play in the streets, railroad tracks and bodies of water. Do not cross the streets or railroad tracks alone. It is fun taking a swim in the pool or beach, but you should go with an adult to avoid drowning. Defense skills would be very helpful. When there is a need of self defense, you can use some of these stuffs but remember these should only be used when there is a need. If a person or animal wants to attack you, you can use stones to throw at them. You can also throw objects to avoid them getting close to you and you could run as fast as you can until you feel safe. You can also use sticks such as baseball bat, hockey stick, cricket bat or golf club to fight your attackers. For more transforming strategies for ADHD, visit http://askdoctorjohn.info/
