Mechanism of action of a rhythmical breathing process on Brain: Aditi m Sengupta, Harvard Medical School, Post graduate Association Recent Scientific work suggests that regular practice of rhytmical breathing process(RBP), in the form of am awareness breathing can protect the brain from neurotoxic chemicals and may help in delaying the development of neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s disease. The rhythmical breathing has neuroprotective effects and(?) process of neurogenesis , or growth of new neurons in the brain. Definitely the process can protect the brain from steady tissue loss that occurs over years and can be effective as a protective barrier in bipolar disorder and depression. In people doing RBP for a prolonged period brain shrinkage does not occur or occurs to a lesser extent. Hence with proper resources RBP can be a suggested mode of treatment in addictive problems(already proved) and compulsive actions. Still it is a matter of research about RBP’s role in Signalling pathways of Brain, mainly in affecting the growth factors which can prove its effectivity in freeing people from overt mania or insanity.
