Recycling is becoming a popular activity these days. Many people recycle everyday items such as plastic bags, aluminum, tin cans, glass bottles, and so on. What will you do if you get a new, modern computer monitor? Will you recycle your old one or just set out by the curb? If you are serious about recycling, you will find a computer monitor recycler and recycle it. Old computer monitors contain a number of harmful, toxic substances. If an old computer monitor makes its way into the landfill and becomes broken, these substances can leak out into the soil and into the water table. This is bad news for the earth and those who live here. For these reasons, it’s very important that you locate a computer monitor disposal/recycling site to handle the disposal of your old monitor properly. The first thing you should do is perform an online search for “computer monitor recycling” for your local area. You may be surprised to find that your local dump does have procedures in place. There may also be private recycling companies that can help you. In these instances, you may be required to pay a fee. Your city may have an annual or semi-annual clean-up day when they will pick up large items and dispose of them properly. Be sure to check with them! This sort of clean-sweep day is usually free of charge. If you have not yet purchased your new monitor, check with the store or online provider you plan to use to see if they have a recycling program. You may even get some credit in trade by turning in your old monitor for a new one. If your monitor is still in good working order, you might want to donate it to a charitable organization. There are a number of charities that refurbish old computer equipment, and of course there are many low income individuals who might think your cast-off monitor is a whole lot better than no monitor at all. Be sure to ask for a receipt for tax purposes. If you are unable to locate anything locally, look up the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) online for more resources. If you are looking for a way to dispose of all of your old business monitors, be sure to check into trading them back to the company for credit or donating them to a school or charity. You certainly do not want to be guilty of dumping huge amounts of toxic waste into the environment, and if you do, you will probably be fined. This is definitely a situation to avoid!
